This would be noble if you just look at it on the surface. Of course even that amount would be pretty high for a guy with no degree and no management experience to speak of, but this is politics, where we mere men dare not tread. First, to get elected to Milwaukee County Executive in Scott pledged to reduce his salary by $60,000 dollars, not by "returning" part of it. Then he broke even this stretched promise his second term by only giving back $10,000 per year. This is effectively a $50,000 dollar raise no matter how you cut it, and more than a good many of his constituents make in a year. Even the ones who actually graduate from Marquette. What this means is that he was still getting paid the same salary, he was just more or less donating 60k back to Milwaukee county, so all of his benefits such as his pension would still be calculated by $129,611 and net him a tidy pension at retirement. Mind you, he promised to reduce the salary by $60,000 and instead came up with this "give the money back" scheme. I wonder if he paid taxes on the whole thing? Might be a good thing to check if you happen to be a IRS auditor. I would have more respect for the man if he just kept the whole salary than try to make hay out of this nonsense. http://markforgov.com/blog/view/JoshRay/273/Scott-Walker-ShenanigansAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
